Amazing! How did you prevent the sun from washing out the image?

I think this is mainly due to my wide angle and close distance - closer than it may look like. 17 mm (@1,6-Crop) ... so the sun is already blown out a bit and looks much bigger than usual in such wide angle. This may make you believe in a longer lense. Such a longer lense instead would probably have "washed out" more (area around sun more narrow) and would also have less vignetting/spot effect. Oh, and RAW gives a lot dynamic too.

Well, at the end you'll have to test different exposures with such backlight and/or have to hope that it'll come out well ... ;) I mostly like a small aperture to get these stars in the highlights (sun) and a rather short shutter speed in these cases.

Where was this pic taken and when? I wish it was on a more sunny day.

More sunny? Don't you like the clouds? The pic was taken in Albstadt/Germany and the time, well, somewhat in the afternoon (february 2006).

it makes me depressed, the darkness, and makes the tree less detailed, so less to look at

Yes, it's a darker mood. But it's against the sunlight, and typical. Think I know what you mean. But there are a lot of other pictures, with different light, brighter, happier, and so on. Maybe I'll upload some brighter snow photos soon, and maybe these will be closer to your personal taste. =)

Hi, I don't know if it is with your permission or not, but this image can be downloaded at DesktopNexus [link] . Thought I let you know.
I myself got the information from =Rykardo. One of his photos was used without permission (link to his journal [link] )

Thanks for telling me. Not nice. But at the moment I've got no time to complain. Btw I notice, that he even postprocessed it ... inspiring, what the image could look like with exaggerated colors and a cool tint. But of course he's not allowed ... Thanks for pointing out!

Yea, the cold is annoying sometimes. After one week skiing in northern italy I have had much snow, but I have a little cold throat too now :D

Awesome, I'd love to go on wintersport myself. I have an uncle who runs a restaurant near a ski piste in Austria, but I've never even been there in my life ;p My choice would be to snowboard instead of skiing though :D
